Here's my picks for the most authentic and popular restaurants of my Thai friends and Thai food connoisseurs!
Brown Sugar - More of a formal restaurant.
Dok Bua - Authentic street food but standards have dropped recently (still pretty good). Good option for group dining. vegetarian options.
Rod Dee - The best! But it's more of a take out place.
Be sure to leave a comment and let me know if I've left anything out! :)
I try to list restaurants with authentic food that comes close to what you would find if you actually visited the country!

Have you ever tried Tom Yum Koong in Medford? I really enjoy it and the people there are so friendly!
By the way, I'm a fellow foodie blogger-- www.dishthisboston.blogspot.com =)
No, but will certainly stop by if I'm in the area! What's good there?
Lanna Thai Diner in Woburn (in a diner car!) is excellent.
Pepper Sky in Central Square is a good place as well. I crave the wonton soup on a weekly basis. The crab rangoon is homemade and fresh. Drunken noodles, pad woon sun, and massaman curry with duck are favorites.
pad thai near boylston/mass ave is the best.
Sad to hear that the original Brown Sugar is closing, but at least the newer one on Comm. Ave, will remain open.
lemon thai in somerville!!!!
Just tried the king and i on charles street. i was expecting to be disappointed, however it was delish. I am a huge thai-foodie and dok bua/rod dee were my favorites before i found this place. it's cheap, and they serve HUGE portions. i had a very spicy tom yum soup and a deliciously spicy seafood typhoon.
Also, worth checking out is Montien in the theater district. although it's a little pricier, this thai food is TOP NOTCH. Delicious.

Brown Sugar is spectacular restaurant,I visit it very often, however as you said is more formal than the other ones. Boston just have a few thai food restaurants, but them really know what people is looking for.

Rod Dee is definately my favorite for authentic Thai food. Their Pad Thai is spicier than most and delicious!
